Since 2023, Mobetie has partaken in MANIFEST, a project which aims to reimagine the European collective memory of the transatlantic slave trade. In a new series, hand-drawn domino tiles (a game beloved by Mobetie as a child) becomes a coding system for medicinal herbal remedies. Long banned in Guadeloupe and other colonies for fear it would be used to poison colonizers, phytotherapy was passed surreptitiously through communities and across generations, including to Mobetie’s maternal grandmother. In recovering several of these recipes, Mobetie seeks to recuperate not only a vestige of her personal history but a Caribbean collective memory of resistance and survival.
